Accessing the guardhouse water tank room (Resident Evil)
When you enter the first passageway of the guardhouse residence basement you will discover a small pool of water blocking your way. The pool looks extremely deep, and even if your character was capable of jumping the distance would be too far. The only other objects in the passageway are three large wooden crates that can be moved if you push against them.
How to solve
The three wooden crates are big enough to form a bridge across the water, and are buoyant enough to hold your weight. You just need to push them down the passageway and into the water pool.
Start with the two closest to the pool, which just need to be pushed in a straight line into the water. The final crate is slightly more complex. Don't make the mistake of pushing it down into the corner opposite the pool, as then the crate will be stuck in the corner and your character is unable to push the crate free. Instead you must counter-intuitively push the crate slightly up the passageway in the opposite direction to the pool so you can then push it against the inner wall and then downwards until you hit the bottom wall. At that point it's the same straight direction into the pool as the first two crates. Once the final crate is plopped into the water you can safely cross the newly-formed bridge and access the main water tank area.
