There are several places where you use the lighter:

- Light the fire in the back area of the Operations Room of the Police Station to retrieve the Virgin Heart from the picture.
- Light the pilot light for the lamps in the Press Room of the Police Station in order to retrieve the Gold Cogwheel.
- Light the oil lamps inside Warehouse 2 of the Raccoon Sewers in order to see the items on the nearby shelves.
- Activate the flare gun in the Cable Car Platform in order to show the location of the Weapon Box Key on the ground nearby.
- Light the fuel on the floor in Sleeping Quarters A of the Underground Laboratory as a way of destroying the Vines in the south west corner.
